Carved from a miscellaneous vintage book, circa-1930!
This whimsical and imperfectly perfect paper sculpture is handmade and captured inside a glass cloche.
It is a perfectly serious literary prescription and is just what the doctor ordered this year! The cloche is 9cm in diam. and 20cm high.
This actual Book Tonic forms part of my post-lockdown release of book sculptures for the 12 days of Christmas. After making lots of curious goods in lock-down and then having all in-person Christmas markets cancelled I had made many creations that I could not get the world to see in 3D – they are harder to discover on-line amongst the chaos! but I hope if you have discovered my page that you find these enchanting.
No book behaves consistently and all sorts of anomalies arise when you turn a book inside out to get the perfectly spaced page spiral. But the concept of a book being a tonic for the soul…a good book of course! really resonated with my whimsical side and the fact these bottles came out of my first experimental session is kind of endearing so I’ll let them pass muster into a glass cloche for any of you book lovers that prompted me to sell them when I posted them on Instagram! You can leave the label on or untie it if you’d like a more neutral apothecary paper sculpture.
When I make the Secret Vintage Booksafes I try not to waste any of the paper i carve out and re-use it to make these endearing three dimensional book sculptures. They are a delightfully dimensional addition to bookshelves and mantles and great gifts for book lovers. No one is the same and all have an individuality defined by their paper origins.
All the information of the book that they were carved from is on a label on the base so that you will always have the historical details kept with it.
PLEASE NOTE – MY WEBSITE IS LINKED TO AUSTRALIA POST CALCULATOR & SOMETIMES WHEN MULTIPLE ITEMS ARE PURCHASED THE SOFTWARE CALCULATES EACH ITEM INDIVIDUALLY INSTEAD OF AT A BULK PRICE. FEAR NOT! BTW. If you’ve managed to read this far, you will find out that I often have many more secret vintage booksafes on my shelf in the studio or in the process of being made-up, so please if you’re looking for something special for someone special, from a certain book or a particular silhouette shape – email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and enquire as to what I can do.
