Carved from 124 pages of Vintage Book Goodness – 124 pages of a book called-
Money by R.C.Mills and E.R.Walker Edition 1941 – makes the perfect Money Tree! – a portentous gift I hope!
This whimsical and imperfectly perfect paper tree sculpture is handmade and captured inside a glass cloche. It is a delightfully dimensional addition to your mantel or book shelf.
Like us, my book sculptures always have a ‘good side’. No book behaves consistently and all sorts of anomalies arise when you turn a book inside out to get the perfectly spaced page spiral, so the backside can be duly imperfect but can be turned to the back when on display. The concept of a book returning to its’ origins as a tree really resonated with my whimsical side.
When I make the Secret Vintage Booksafes I try not to waste any of the paper i carve out and re-use it to make these endearing three dimensional book sculptures for the bookish amongst us. They are great gifts for book lovers. No one is the same and all have an individuality defined by their paper adornments and I’m sorry but sometimes I lose track of which book they come from as I try to use all the offcuts I have!
