Alone in the studio with a tripod, no stylist, no director and no catering! The intention behind this image was to encourage a Green Christmas Gift Buying sentiment. All Foolhouse Secret Vintage Booksafes are consciously rescued and re-imagined. Turning these forgotten books into heirlooms or art is better for the environment than recycling them as so much water is used in the process. Come see them in person along with my book sculptures @makersfrontyard - my place in Dulwich hill on December 11 - the Trail Map will be released soon! Cannot wait to see you all in real life! X

Visit @saywellgallery in Marrickville this Friday and Saturday and you can see this little Nest Egg in person plus my Bird Watcher Artwork hung in the gallery. Both can be found on my website but it’s so much nicer to experience these curious goods in real life! I love this particular Nest Egg as the nest was found in the backyard of an Innerwest crocheter and it is naturally woven by the birds with discarded blue thread! I can’t take all the credit! The book egg is carved from a vintage copy of Call of the Wild and Black Beauty.

Gather round! This little Flight of Fancy Nest Egg has found alot of love recently as a Finalist in the @greenway_artprize 2021 - the category is Small Sculpture. It is the first time I have entered my whimsical creations into an Artprize
But everything just fell into place to make it so - when you work from home, use local suppliers, immerse yourself into your neighbourhood and with lock downs granting you spare time (and when it’s as vibrant as the inner west!) how can you not be inspired!

You can see My little Flight of Fancy Nest Egg installed on the 4th floor of the Mungo Scott Building in Summer Hill as part of the exhibition until December 20.
This was my artist statement:
“My nest egg is in Dulwich Hill, my home, my studio and my community. Everyday I walk the Greenway and Cook’s River. The wind drops nests at my feet, tucks feathers in my pockets. The whimsical community libraries provide me with pre-loved books to resume, the trees full of birdsong, colour my inner city living green and lock down gave me time to spin these coveted journeys into an artful story, a flight of fancy.”
(The egg is carved from 600 pages of ‘The Summer Garden by Paulina Simons’- it was stamped Greenway Library - Take a Book, Give a Book, Share a Book. The nest was found at the foot of a large tree in Arlington Park, each coloured bird is double sided and found in botanical books, each bird representing species found in the corridors of the Greenway.
I hope you get a chance to swing by this fascinating event- entry is Free, covid-regs in place and all works are for sale.

I dropped my Small Sculpture off yesterday and the 4th floor of this iconic Summer Hill building is being totally transformed into a bespoke gallery space for 170 hung works not to mention the finalist sculpture works and art installations. The view is spectacular and the space was chock a block with intriguingly wrapped works ready to be revealed! Winners will be announced on Opening night this Friday December 3 and the exhibition will be open until December 20. So get along and soak up the creativity. All works will be for sale.

Typically I’d be on tenterhooks the night before a market with weather like we’re having in Sydney but the advantage of online markets is I don’t have to lug precious aged paper into wild weather!
