‘Best in Show’
One of my curious collectible artworks framed serendipitously by a 1920’s vintage cast iron gem scone tray.
Using and curating vintage book illustrations from my collection, a new story is pulled together from old.
Each illustration is adhered to a disc that is mounted within the half-spheres of the tray.
These illustrations are from pre-1900’s Natural History Books on birds and botanicals and are one-of-a-kind.
The botanicals include some of my favourite things – a tea plant, a coffee plant and dubiously an opium poppy plant! And I love the way the peacock image is connected through a combination of spheres.
These 3-dimensional artworks sit deliciously on a shelf or hang simply on a nail in the wall nestled amongst other mixed artworks.
