LOVELIEST GARDEN
An original collage from Foolhouse’s Postcards from Alice Collection
This Original A5 Collage uses some beautiful coloured illustrations from a 1917 Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll and some black and white ones from a 1925 edition, that I had in my archives. The tiny books were too damaged to turn into secret booksafes and their cover and several pages inside had been lovingly coloured in by a creative child! I wanted to take some of Alice’s words and respond to them in a new way that shows how relevant her thoughts still are.
This textural collage uses besides rescued book illustrations, vintage postcards from England and thread and pin pricks from my mother’s vintage sewing box – all the better to tie the present to the past, or perhaps the past to the present.
Just when you think life couldn’t get more absurd…it can.
Created on A5 Heavy Watercolour Paper using rescued book illustrations and end pages.
