An original analog collage created with ephemera from Foolhouse’s private collection.
‘Pleasure Loving’ uses parts of carefully curated illustrations from a variety of vintage books, combined to tell a new story with the words of old. They are integrated into a made-over 1910 vintage book cover called ‘Symbols and Metaphors’ with unique handmade details such as a re-imagined found postcard, needlework to match the coloured landscape, pre-1900 animal etchings and stitched forests on vintage end-papers. I found amusing sentences amongst the vintage stories that surround me and wove it into a new meaning. Often dated and cheeky, the language is so charming and nostalgic that it seems only right that it should be celebrated and brought out of the book and into the light. The sentiment it reveals is poignant.
