An original analog collage created with ephemera from Foolhouse’s private collection.
‘Skylark’ uses parts of carefully curated illustrations from a variety of vintage books, combined to tell a new story with the words of old. They are integrated into a made-over 1915 vintage book cover with unique handmade details such as stitches using my mother’s vintage sewing box, carefully curated book illustrations & found letters and book mushrooms in dimensional relief. I found amusing sentences amongst the vintage stories that surround me and wove it into a new meaning. Often dated and cheeky, early language is so charming and nostalgic that it seems only right that it should be celebrated and brought out of books and into the light. The double-entendre that ‘skylark’ evokes is the stuff or day dreams.
