Dis-covered Covers
An original analog collage created with ephemera from Foolhouse’s private collection.
‘Art Comes to Life’ uses parts of carefully curated illustrations from a damaged vintage Snugglepot and Cuddlepie book by May Gibbs circa 1930’s, put together to tell a new story. They are integrated into a made-over 1940’s Psalm book cover with unique handmade details such as stitches using my mother’s vintage sewing box and a carved book gumnut in dimensional relief. The gumnut babies were always painting and I found these lovely naive words that seem more appropriate today than ever for artists beginning or established. The banksia men always frightened me as a child, I guess that was their intent but I love his propulsion right out of the frame as queer patrons look on! Aritst’s pictures can come alive but so too do artists when they create. An homage to artists.
Mounted on Heavy Watercolour Paper and framed. 20cm x 25cm x 4cm.
