APPETITE
From the archives of Foolhouse’s Absurdist Collection.
This Original A4 Collage was created in response to the bizarre advice given in a 1904 edition of:
Vivilore (trans. Life Story): The Pathway to Mental and Physical Perfection by Mary Ries.
The book was falling apart and beyond redemption for the bookshelf so after reading the 600 page tome, I lept the funniest copy for your amusement and created an equally foolish yet handsome character to represent the mad ‘worldly’ advice. The textural collages are made up of rescued book illustrations, some from Mrs.Beeton’s Cookbooks, vintage napkin folding brochures and the like, vintage end pages and thread and pin pricks from my mother’s vintage sewing box – all the better to tie the present to the past, or perhaps the past to the present.
I love that the solution to over eating is drinking lemonade – I’m all for that! but phoning a friend is equally fabulous! hopefully we have come a long way since these naive words were dished out! Just when you think life couldn’t get more absurd…it can.
Created on A4 Heavy Watercolour Paper and framed in a Corban and Blair Box Frame.
